the region will be a political and economic and military chaos. lou: president obama has said that a decade of war is near its end. peace is at hand, i guess. is that a prospective you share? >> no, that was never true. it was not true when he said it last year, and it's not true today. these wars are continuing. it simply means that we are not in the fight or not helping shape the outcome. the outcomes matter, whether in afghanistan, syria today than. our interests are at stake. there are ways in which we can help shape these outcomes favorably tell us into our friends and allies in the region without committing tens of thousands of ground troops. that is a strong man. he has assembled. so, again, it has to do with the strategy of foreign-policy. instead of seeing every issue as a transaction to move from your in box tiara box, this administration has a hard time understanding this week that is taking place across the arab world in developing a comprehensive response to it. lou: thank you for being with us. we appreciated. thank you. thank you both. up next, it turns out that president bus

't the first time when they controlled everything. >> yeah, there's a reason that president obama almost never mentioned the words climate change and cap and trade during the the campaign, paul, because they're political losers, they're big tax increases on workers, on union workers, on manufacturing workers, and so, the democrats have avoided that issue now that they've won this election, they've sort of sprung it on people and i don't believe the votes are there in the united states senate or the house to pass anything like the carbon tax, or the democrats are talking an energy tax, like a gasoline tax, kim is right. if they're going to do this, through the regulatory angle and outlaw in that way. >> paul: but then, james, why mention it so prominently, or was this sort after bait and switch for the environmentalists and mention it and in policy terms don't. >> there may be some bait and switch, but this is key. if he doesn't need to get anything through the congress, like the potomac swatch-- >> kim strassel. >> so well. they think that they have a court decision a few years empowers them t

,944. connell: getting close. thank you. president obama getting set to unveil his plan for immigration reform. he will have that later in the day from las vegas. haley barbour joins us now. the politics of this have been really talked about a lot. in fact, we talked about it earlier this hour. let me start with the economics of immigration reform. a number of ceos have told us that they would like to see this in the perspective of, hey, let's get some highly skilled immigrants in here that will help the economy. that will help us to get us turned around. your views are what? >> there is no question if we follow what is good economic policy for america we will have immigration reform. it will allow more skilled and unskilled foreign workers to come into the united states. we need the labor. if you look at the labor participation rate in the united states, it is almost at a record low for the percentage of adults who are actually working or trying to get a job. only about 58%. if you are going to grow your economy, you have to have enough workers and we do not right now. connell: we are behind

. this decision said the recess appointments as they have been done not just by president obama, but all presidents in recent decades. they are all unconstitutional. >> sorry this a political decision? >> this is the question that is hard to answer. these are three very conservative republican judges. the political implications of the decision are clear. for a republican anti-democrat and can i say that that was the motivation of the judges? i can't. >> can we assume it's the u.s. supreme court that will consider this or leave it hanging? >> they have to. it's too important of a decision and think the supreme court will take it. >> this is an automatic. >> almost automatic. very difficult to predict because this is an aggressive conservative majority on the supreme court. citizens united and campaign finance. the second amendment and gun control. this court has been aggressively conservative and it could be affirmed by the supreme court. >> what are does it say about president obama? >> the d.c. circuit court of appeals that decided this case often called the second most important court

opinion is, i don't like using children in political ads of any kind. i think consistently speaking, i also don't like the president when he uses children to sign a bill, obama care uses children as props, he used them when he did the executive orders about gun control. so those types of things on both sides to me i just have a problem with. children are innocent people in this world and they don't need to be political pawns. this is about a much bigger issue and i think we need to leave the children out of it. >> john avlon, even if you agree the only thing to me that then seems problematic about that ad with the nra is, look, the president's children do have protection. they're the children of the president of the united states. and i think it is fair to assume that in many ways those children are at higher risk than other children in this country. they are targets of kidnapping and other things. there's a reason they have that security. >> absolutely. i mean, that's why the ad doesn't pass the common sense test, there's a fundamental difference that everyone understands. if a democr

that all americans can support. there's no political ideology that finds this cruel loss of life acceptable. i was incredibly pleased to see president obama include as part of his comprehensive plan to prevent gun violence a bill that i first introduced in 2009 with mayor bloomberg and commissioner kelly called "the gun trafficking prevention act," which would be the first federal law to define gun trafficking as a federal crime and event scofers illegal guns from being -- scores of illegal guns from being moved into the hands of criminals. we have thousands of laws but effectively none of them are directly focused on preventing someone from driving from one state to another state with a
